In the thick of it

We are now nearing the peak of the Respiratory illnesses surge in various hotspots from coast to coast โ€“ COVID in NYC area and RSV across the South while Flu contiues to increase across the country.

The Exposure Risk map below shows that almost the entire population is facing increasing levels of exposure risk to one or more of these airborne illnesses. If you haven't got your shots yet, there's still time since the elevated levels are not headed down till end of January. And it is always smart to use a good fitting mask to mimize your exposure.

COVID-19

Prevalence

State level prevalence now clearly shows the Winter wave established in the top population hubs โ€“ Northeast corridor, Florida, California and Midwest.

The fourth week sees the Winter COVID wave take the Northeast, Midwest, Florida and California to high prevalence.

Trends

ใ€œ This past week saw the Pacific Northwest and the central plains register a minor decline in prevalence.

๐Ÿ”บ Meanwhile, states along the Northeast saw an acceleration in prevalence.

Variants

๐Ÿฆ  JN.1defines the current variant driving prevalence in all states, especially in the largest metro regions. As millions are infected with this new variant over the past month, several new sub variants of JN.1 including JN.1.1, JN.1.2 and XDD are gaining prevalence.

JN.1.1, JN.1.2 & XDD are following the trail of JN.1

CDC first reported on the prevalence of JN.1 this week and it matched hubbub's own projections for the variant which have been driving the hotspots in the prevalence map below.

Vaccine

COVID vaccine adoption is tapering off around 17% for the adult population with seniors exceeding 35%.

It is still worth it to get the vaccine. If you have not got it yet, there is still time, as we have another 2 months of high exposure risk everywhere.

Flu

Flu prevalence is on track to being a normal flu season with incidence in the 1-2% range.

Flu prevalence continues to increase across almost all states

๐Ÿ’‰ If you have not received the flu shot already, now would be the time.

RSV

RSV prevalence is still very high in metro areas but starting to peak in almost all states.

RSV prevalence has peaked across the South
