๐Ÿฆ  JN.1 is the defining variant of the Winter wave with most states experiencing the start of the Winter wave having around 5% of JN.1 prevalence. The NYC region is unique in that greater than 5% of the prevalence is due to JN.1 representative of the other states trailing NYC by a week or two.

JN.1 is driving the Winter wave

๐Ÿš€ States such as California, Colorado, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas and Utah that had seen localized surges a week earlier from the onset of JN.1 saw the start of the Winter wave this past week. We can expect similar spikes in the states that are still green with low prevalence in the coming weeks.

Do take all precautions โ€“ย staying home when sick, ventilation, masking, vaccines โ€“ to protect yourself and your community.

16% of adults have received the COVID vaccine till a week back indicating that getting to at least 25% coverage for this season is an unlikely scenario.

With the several months of high levels of immunity offered by the vaccines, if you have not received the vaccine yet, now is the time to get it before prevalence ramps up in December.

Nationally, Flu prevalence is showing some surprising pauses in the upward trend in some states such as Texas.
